St. George - Geevarghese sahada

Saint George famously know as Geevarghese Sahada amongst the orthodox syrian christians  in India was a soldier under Diocletian . He is one of the most famous military saints. He is a martyr and one of the fourteen Holy helpers.

Photos and Pics of St George normally shows him killing a huge dragon to rescue a beautiful lady . Dragon depicts Evil and the Beautiful lady represents God's Holy Truth

Saint George was Diocletian's Favourite soldier (Diocletian was a Roman Emperor who hated Christianity). Diocletian was very cruel to Christians and repeatedly tortured them. St George was brave, and without fear of death,he stood against Diocletian . Shortly he gave up his position in the Roman army and later he was tortured and beheaded for being a brave Christian.

  1. actually this is from a greek myth of Bellerophon

Bellerophon or Bellerophontes (Βελλεροφόντης) is a hero of Greek mythology. He was "the greatest hero and slayer of monsters, alongside Cadmus and Perseus, before the days of Heracles",[1] and his greatest feat was killing the Chimera, a monster that Homer depicted with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail: "her breath came out in terrible blasts of burning flame https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellerophon

  2. Dont know why st George become a patron saint of an orthodox church in Kerala like chandanappaly church or puthuppaly church. I thought st George has a catholic undertone. Inter-denominal borrowing of saints? good practice I suppose. Agree????
